Misadventure on one of Ohio’s Best Roads?
By Tom Johnson - Chapter President
“If you worried about falling off the bike, you'd never get on it” - Famous quote from a guy who fell off his bike.
This saying will make sense in a moment. We did our Ohio Best Roads for 2024, and it was a good one. I used Google Maps this time, and it took me on some unique roads. Some of the people behind me were probably thinking to themselves....." what have I gotten myself into this time?" Well, they got precisely what they wished for. We changed our lunch place from Patty's Place to Wings, Etc....the place was pretty good. The weather cooperated this time, and we had nasty clouds, but the heat was there.
We left our lunch stop and headed back home, then ran over to Seneca Lake for a split second. We did stop at the Pilot just off of I-77; I have no idea why I stopped there; it is always a mess to get out of. I forgot about the Marathon just down the road. Lucky me!!!! We headed towards Brewster for well-earned ice cream, and I took a shortcut. It wasn't short at all. We hit gravel, and I told everyone to stop. I just stared at the road, waiting for it to talk to me, and it said, "Come ride with us and enjoy the fun!!" I said ok and jumped right on it; I made everyone else wait behind me. And that's when the nightmare began; I got into a gully and could never escape it. Lucky me!!!! Some of the gracious members of the group helped push me out, while others took pictures and some videos. Lucky me again! All in all, I got out of the mess, and we got turned around and headed in the direction we NEEDED to go.
While we were sitting at the ice cream place, I explained my actions and stated they were FOR TRAINING PURPOSES ONLY, and no one was to attempt them at all!!! Now, the quote makes sense to you after this. Enjoy your rides, and keep it between the ditches, not in them!!!
