Low-Speed Easy Riders

By Kevin Irwin - Chapter President

On Sunday, April 13th, the clouds parted and the sun warmed the air. We had good weather for Paul Healy’s low-speed practice course.

Paul has found a way to organize 6 motojitsu drills in the Bair’s Indian Motorcycle parking lot. These drills are focused on low speed manuevering and the emergency stop. It is good way to get a feel for your clutch on your new bike or reintroduce yourself to your old bike after a long winter.

This author personally enjoyed the “figure 8 boxes 27-24-20” and “crazy 13” drills. These drills mimic turning around in tight gas stations, restuarant parking lots, or the inevitable missed turn.

All of the structured drills are there to take at your own pace. On Sunday, we were working hard on those motorcycles, and the warm sun forced us to peel our jackets!

All in all, the 12 particpates sharpened their skills and we only had to pick up my bike once!

Our last slow-speed practice is Saturday, April 19th, from 4:30pm to 7:30pm.

Finally, a special shout out to Paul Healy for planning this event and providing the coaching and shady tree mechanic work to keep us all going!
