Horse Apple Highway Ride Recap
On Saturday August 27th, the chapter had 16 motorcycles head out to brave the natural obstacles of Amish country. Whether you call them Horse Apples or Road Apples you know what we are talking about, and you know that you don’t want to ride through them if possible.
The highlight of the 153 mile ride was the food and ice-cream. Lunch at the East Main Kitchen and Coffee never disappoints. For large groups they allow reservations and they were setup to feed 16 hungry riders as quickly as possible. The service and food were excellent. If you plan to visit, just keep in mind they are closed on Sundays. As far as ice-cream, Harztler Family Dairy is a chapter favorite. If you go, check out their take on Moose Tracks called Heifer Trails!
Another interesting stop was in Dundee, OH. At the corner of OH-93 and OH-516 there is a new Amish pantry store called Dundee Marketplace. They have very nice bathrooms, deli. and a nice seating area with booths. The parking lot is fantastic - a very nice place to stop and rest on a long ride.
The sunny warm weather and the great roads made for a fantastic ride. We had some unexpected construction traffic on OH-93 in Canal Fulton that made us 15 minutes late for lunch. We survived and consider it our sacrifice for fixing OH-93 in Canal Fulton. The rest of the ride was pure bliss. OH-516 from Dundee to Dover is fantastic and OH-651, OH-643 to OH-83 were littered with too many Horse Apples to count! The obstacles did not affect the fantastic curves and hills.
We had plenty of time at rest stops to admire motorcycles, compare gear, and visit. The only issue was that all of us were beginning to detect the end of summer. Get out there and ride fall is on the way!
