North Canton IMRG Chapter headed for the hills on Saturday, October 2nd, the Hocking Hills to be more specific. Rainy weather forecasted for Sunday moved the ride to Saturday. Once again email notifications, Facebook posts, texts message, and early AM calls brought 15 people together on 13 bikes for a great ride.
The goal was to cover 300 miles round trip and visit Old Man’s Cave and picnic in Hocking Hills State Park at the new visitor center.
The morning started crisp and bright, requiring layers that were peeled away at each comfort and gas stop. The high lights of the trip were OH-514 from Shreve to Danville and OH-664 that we caught North of Rushville and rode into Hocking Hills.
We grabbed Subway in Rushville and picnicked in a pavilion at Old Man’s Cave. The state park was packed! We had some trouble getting parked but we all buddied up and squeezed 4-5 in a parking spot. Some members visited the new visitor center, a few relaxed and rested, while others to the short hike to see some of Old Man’s Cave.
On our departure, we continued on OH 664, to OH-56, and then connected with OH-93 that took us to Zanesville. We were running behind schedule. With the day light running out and Sunday’s bad weather beginning to show itself in the West, the group decided to take the interstate home. So a very quick 90 minutes on I-70 and I-77 had many of us home in the Canton Akron area by 7:15.
